Dr. Laurie Weaver joins GCSS Curriculum & Instruction Department
July 12, 2021
Greensboro, Ga. — The Greene County School System is pleased to announce that Dr. Laurie Weaver, former assistant principal of Greene County Primary School, has joined the district’s leadership team as Elementary Curriculum Coordinator.
In her new role, Dr. Weaver will collaborate and work with each school’s instructional coaches on curriculum and instruction, personalized learning, and establishing a STEM education program, beginning at Carson Middle School, to bridge the learning gap by offering GCSS students non-traditional learning experiences, making them hands-on, active learners.
Dr. Weaver says she became interested in the field of curriculum development because she enjoys supporting student achievement by ensuring that students are provided an educational experience focused on innovative learning for high student engagement and academic success.
“What I am looking forward to the most about my new position is being a supportive member of the district’s Curriculum and Instruction Department, ensuring that administrators, coaches, teachers, and support staff are provided with the necessary resources and information needed to educate, inspire, challenge and empower students to be problem solvers, critical thinkers, and communicators to be successful in a variety of fields,” Dr. Weaver said.
Dr. Weaver served as assistant principal at GCPS for six years, assisting with the development and implementation of instructional strategies, coordinating assessments, lesson planning, and developing classroom activities to create an environment conducive to learning. Prior to her work at GCPS, Dr. Weaver spent 19 years as an elementary school teacher, focusing on reading, language arts, and writing.
Originally from Ohio, she taught in the Columbus Public School System prior to moving to Georgia and teaching in the Dekalb, Rockdale, and Henry County school systems, before coming to Greene County as assistant principal of Union Point Steam Academy in 2015. Serving as UPSA’s STEAM Coordinator, she managed all aspects of the program, including developing the school’s STEAM curriculum, planning and teaching weekly STEAM lessons, and organizing special events and activities such as science fairs and drone competitions.
“Dr. Weaver holds high expectations for herself, staff, and students; and I am excited to have an educator of her caliber on our team,” said Dr. Rotonya Rhodes, GCSS Assistant Superintendent and Director of Curriculum and Instruction. “Her experiences in STEM education and at various grade levels will benefit us as we work to offer more innovative instructional programs to our children. I am looking forward to working with Dr. Weaver in this new capacity.”
Dr. Weaver earned her Doctorate in Educational Leadership from Argosy University in 2010, a Master’s of Science in Reading and Literacy from Walden University in 2003, and Bachelor’s degree in Elementary and Secondary Education from Youngstown State University in 1996.
