Greene County High School announces Class of 2020 graduation ceremony plans
Greene County High School Principal James Peek announced Friday that official plans for a rescheduled graduation ceremony have been finalized. The members of the Class of 2020 will indeed be able to gather and celebrate the completion of their high school careers!
Two plans have been developed, in accordance with CDC guidelines for COVID-19, to ensure that the appropriate ceremony is executed, based on the current state of health statistics. The graduation ceremony will take place on Saturday, July 25, 2020, at 10:00 a.m. The date and time of the ceremony will not change, regardless of the executed plan.
Pending no drastic increase in the number of new COVID-19 local cases, the ceremony will take place at Tiger Stadium. Graduates will be allowed a very limited number of guests; however, the ceremony will be streamed live. All in attendance, including staff, students and guests will exercise mandated precautions, including social distancing, temperature readings and the use of face masks.
In the event that a drastic increase in the number of new COVID-19 local cases occurs, we will move to the alternate plan of a mobile graduation ceremony, which will take place at the front entrance of Greene County High School. Attendees will be limited to staff and students; however, the ceremony will be streamed live. As with the original plan, those in attendance will exercise mandated precautions.
While this is not the ideal way we would hope to celebrate the accomplishments of our students, it is certainly the safest way. Our goal is to not enter the 2020-2021 school term without properly sending off our Class of 2020 graduates.
Seniors and parents will receive more detailed information in the coming weeks. Student email, GCHS and GCSS social media, printed media and automated phone calls will be utilized as our platforms of communication. Please join us in our efforts to ensure that this milestone is recognized joyously and responsibly!
