GCSS launches 2024-25 Attendance Campaign with national theme: "Be Present, Be Powerful"
The Greene County School System (GCSS) announces the kickoff of its 2024-25 attendance campaign, embracing the national theme from Attendance Works: "Be Present, Be Powerful." September is Attendance Awareness Month, and this year's campaign is a continuation of the district's ongoing efforts to combat chronic absenteeism, a challenge that has affected schools nationwide.

Greene College & Career Academy enters 7th year as a model for student success and community impact
The Greene College & Career Academy (GCCA) at Greene County High School is celebrating its seventh year of operation as the cornerstone of career-focused education in the region. One of just 41 active college and career academies in Georgia, the GCCA continues to achieve remarkable milestones, with one of its most recent accomplishments being a perfect score on its five-year accreditation review by the Technical College System of Georgia.
Parent Survey for GCSS Accreditation
Cognia will be conducting the accreditation review for the Greene County School System in Spring 2025. The comprehensive evaluation includes feedback from GCSS parents. We kindly ask all parents to take a few minutes to complete the Parent Survey.
Superintendent Houston Invited to Join Gov. Kemp's Superintendent Advisory Council
The Greene County School System is proud to announce that Dr. Chris Houston, Superintendent of Schools, attended his first meeting as a member of Georgia Governor Brian Kemp’s Superintendent Roundtable. The group met in Atlanta at the Governor’s Mansion in July. Dr. Houston is one of only 10 superintendents statewide selected for this panel.
GCSS welcomes Dr. Kimberley Simmons as Director of Special Education
The Greene County School System is pleased to welcome Dr. Kimberley Simmons to the district leadership team as the Director of Special Education. In this role, Dr. Simmons is primarily responsible for overseeing the district’s Special Education program and collaborating with teachers, support staff, and administrators to foster a supportive and engaging learning environment for students with disabilities.

Congratulations to Didi Davis, GCSS 2025-2026 District Teacher of the Year!  Ms. Davis, GCHS Teacher of the Year, was recognized with the announcement at the annual Teacher of the Year Banquet honoring her and fellow Teachers of the Year Cheryl Gerber (GCES) and Aleah Callaway (AWCMS). Congratulations to all!

Dr. Aaryn Schmuhl has been connecting with students, parents, and teachers through his superintendent advisory councils to make sure every voice helps guide the Greene County School System’s next chapter.

The GCHS “Invincible Marching Tigers” Band roared to victory with a 1st place finish in Class A for the second year in a row at the Jaguar Classic, plus top honors for Drum Major Fre’Darious Clark and a 2nd place win for the 3D Drumline!

CTI, FFA, and SkillsUSA students joined forces with the FFA Alumni at the Rock N’ Roll Cruise In downtown, raising funds, smiles, and school pride!

Greene County Elementary students recently kicked off their first DARE class with SRO Sgt. Don Gause, learning the skills to make safe choices, resist peer pressure, and grow into responsible, confident leaders.

AWCMS FFA members recently showcased their expertise in agricultural technology, tool identification, and shop safety at the regional career development competition at Oglethorpe County High School, representing their school with excellence.
