Superintendent Dr. Chris Houston publishes letter regarding GCSS Return to School for the 2020-21 school year
August will be here before we know it, and our top priority as we prepare for Greene County’s return to school is our students' and staff's health and safety. We hope for a traditional start to the year where we welcome our students back to our school buildings in person. If we cannot safely hold traditional school due to the spread of COVID-19 in Greene County at that time, it may be necessary to employ distance learning once again. Our Return to School Task Force is developing multiple plans of action to ensure we are prepared either way.

District releases adjusted end-of-year grading guide for 2020
GCSS leadership has carefully considered implications for this year’s end-of-year grading as we prepare to head into the last month of the school year. We want to ensure that our policy decisions are in the best interest of children, not penalizing them for circumstances beyond their control. Therefore, we have developed a new grading guide for this year, adjusted to account for the impact of the distance/digital learning days we have implemented due to physical school closures as a result of COVID-19.

GCHS Principal James Peek releases a statement regarding Class of 2020 graduation
If the Greene County School System is able to return to school on April 27th as planned, GCHS hopes to hold its graduation ceremony as planned and on schedule, if health officials deem it safe to do so. If the governor further extends this school closure and GCHS does not return to school in April, that plan will change. If at all possible, the school will hold a traditional graduation ceremony before the start of the next school year.

Greene County Schools partners with Purposity to meet student needs
The Greene County School System recently announced a partnership with Purposity, an app connecting users with one-to-one needs in their community. The way it works is that the district will post a student need on the app, (e.g. A student’s family loses everything in a housefire and the family needs new clothes, or a student needs a jacket in the winter or they've outgrown their shoes) and then its Purposity followers will get notified and be able to donate or even purchase a specific item through Amazon that will be shipped directly to the school to help that family. Click to read more and find out how you can help us get to 300 followers.
