What is Title I?
Title I is a part of the No Child Left Behind Act of 2001 (NCLB). A Title I school is a school that receives supplemental federal funding due to a percentage of low-income students. Title I funding is intended to help close the achievement gap between low and high performing schools and ensure that all children have the opportunity to meet challenging State academic content and obtain a high quality education.

TITLE I SCHOOL DESIGNATION PARENT NOTIFICATION
The Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA) of 1965 requires that parents or guardians who have children attending a Title I school be notified of how well their school is preparing its students for college and/or a career, as well as the school’s designation status under Georgia’s ESEA Flexibility Waiver.
Under the 2015 renewal of Georgia’s ESEA Flexibility Waiver, certain Title I schools continue to be designated as Reward, Priority, or Focus Schools. The Waiver allows the use of the College and Career Ready Performance Index (CCRPI) as the comprehensive report card for all schools in Georgia, providing a score between 0-100 for each school—measuring how well the school is doing in preparing its students to be successful in college and/or a career.
I am very proud to tell you that Greene County Primary School has not been given a school designation this year, which means we are a Title I school that is continuing to provide a quality education to all of our students.
At Greene County Primary School, we take pride in the teaching we provide for our children. Our teachers and staff members work very hard to meet the needs of all students to ensure they achieve at their highest potential.
An important part of GCPS's success is parent participation and support in developing activities to improve student achievement. A Parent's Right to Know:
Teacher/Paraprofessional Qualifications and Certifications
The Greene County School District is committed to helping your child develop the academic knowledge and critical thinking he/she needs to succeed in school and beyond. With Title I schools in the district, we must meet federal regulations related to teacher qualifications as defined in ESEA. These regulations allow you to learn more about your child’s teacher’s training and/or credentials. We are happy to provide this information to you. At any time, you may ask:
- Whether the teacher met state qualifications and certification requirements for the grade level and subject he/she is teaching,
- Whether the teacher received an emergency or conditional certificate through which state qualifications are waived, and
- Whether undergraduate or graduate degrees the teacher holds, including graduate certificates and additional degrees, and major(s)or areas of concentration.
You may also ask whether your child receives help from a paraprofessional. If your child receives assistance, we can provide you with information about the paraprofessional’s qualifications.
We work very hard to make sure your child has a high quality education. Our commitment includes making sure that all of our teachers and paraprofessionals are highly skilled.
