House Bill 91 Petition

On March 30, 2015, Governor Nathan Deal signed House Bill 91 (2015) into law, giving former students the opportunity to petition for graduation. This law means that an individual no longer enrolled in a Georgia public school and who previously failed to receive a high school diploma solely for failing to achieve a passing score on one or more portions of the Georgia High School Graduation Tests, The Georgia High School Writing Test, or their predecessors may petition the local board of education for graduation. The local board will determine the student’s eligibility to receive a high school diploma pursuant to O.C.G.A. § 20-2-281.1 based on the graduation requirements in effect when the student first entered ninth grade.

We will review each request to ensure that the petitioner met all other graduation requirements (i.e.: credits). We will notify students of the status of their petition within 30 days. We will order high school diplomas for students who do not have a diploma on file. Individuals who do not have a diploma on file must pay the $15 diploma cost and allow additional time for the delivery of the diploma.

What must I do to petition the board for a diploma?

1. Complete the "Petition for Diploma Form"
   (You may obtain a form from the Greene County Board of Education administrative offices.)
   
   
2. Submit the completed form to:

3. After we receive your completed form, a counselor will review your petition.  You will receive a response within 30 days.
