Dr. Aaryn Schmuhl, Superintendent

Dr. Aaryn Schmuhl has served as the Greene County School System's Superintendent since July 2025. Following a comprehensive search process conducted with executive search firm McPherson & Jacobson, the Board identified Dr. Schmuhl as an exceptional leader whose experience, vision, and values align with Greene County’s commitment to student success and continuous improvement. 

Dr. Schmuhl brings more than two decades of experience in public education, including roles as a teacher, principal, district leader, and state-level innovator. Prior to joining the Greene County School System, he served as Vice President of Program Development and Innovation at the Georgia Leadership Institute for School Improvement (GLISI), where he led the design and implementation of instructional and leadership coaching experiences to strengthen leadership capacity across Georgia school districts. 

Before joining GLISI in 2019, Dr. Schmuhl served in a variety of leadership roles in Henry County Schools, including Chief Leadership Officer, Assistant Superintendent for Learning and Leadership, and Principal of Luella Middle School. He also teaches graduate coursework as an adjunct faculty member at the University of Kentucky, preparing future school leaders for success. 

Dr. Schmuhl holds a doctorate of education from Vanderbilt University and a master’s degree from Harvard University and is widely recognized for his work in instructional leadership, personalized learning, and strategic innovation. His areas of expertise include transformational change in school systems, student-centered learning, building effective professional learning communities, and leveraging instructional technology to support student achievement.
