Greene County School System celebrates gains in Georgia Milestones performance
The Greene County School System is proud to announce a marked improvement in student performance on the Georgia Milestones Assessments for the 2023-2024 academic year. The Georgia Milestones Assessment, which is administered in grades 3-12, is just one measure of many that the Greene County School System uses to measure academic progress, and this year, the results showed increased proficiency and a considerable reduction in beginning-level learners on 13 out of 19 Georgia Milestones assessments.

GCSS attendance campaign sees success in early stages, with improvement at all levels
The Greene County School System has successfully begun an attendance campaign this year to address a chronic absenteeism challenge that has affected schools locally and across the nation since the COVID-19 Pandemic. Comparing Fall 2022 to Fall 2023, Greene County Schools saw the percentage of chronically absent students decrease at every school, by 6% at Greene County Primary School, 11% at Carson Middle School, and 4% at Greene County High School.

GCPS to hold practice school evacuation and family reunification drill on March 29th
n Friday, March 29th, Greene County Primary School will participate in a practice school evacuation and family reunification drill. There is no emergency situation involved. This drill allows the school to practice evacuation and reunification procedures involving students, families, and school district employees, and provides the Greene County School System and emergency responders with an opportunity to evaluate our emergency operations plan and improve our response skills.

Congratulations to Ms. Cameron Shuler, GCSS 2023-2024 District Teacher of the Year! 🏆 Ms. Shuler is a 1st Grade teacher at Greene County Primary School and was honored with the surprise announcement at the district's annual Teacher of the Year Reception.

GCSS celebrates excellence in teaching by naming three 2023-2024 Teachers of the Year
The Greene County School System has announced its 2023-2024 Teachers of the Year. First grade teacher Cameron Shuler is Greene County Primary School’s Teacher of the Year, sixth grade math teacher Ashley Bridges is Anita White Carson Middle School’s Teacher of the Year, and Greene College & Career Academy Early Childhood Education pathway instructor Laura Ringer is Teacher of the Year at Greene County High School.

Making the Grade: GCSS GA Milestones scores improve in 2022-23, with notable improvement in early literacy
Greene County students continued to show improvement on the 2022-2023 Georgia Milestones assessments, according to the results released by the Georgia Department of Education on July 28. Average scores increased or held steady at each grade band, compared to the 2021-2022 school year, with strong gains displayed in the critical area of third-grade literacy.

Greene BOE approves contractor for new elementary school building, expands grade scope
The Greene County Board of Education on Monday night approved Atlanta-based company Evergreen Construction as the construction manager for the new elementary school to be built on Meadow Crest Road. Also in Monday night’s meeting, the BOE voted to expand the scope of the new school to include grades 4 and 5.
