GCSS announces new Director of Teaching and Learning
The Greene County School System is pleased to welcome Crystal Parten to the district leadership team as the Director of Teaching and Learning. In this role, she will be primarily responsible for curriculum choice, planning, alignment, and implementation, all of which are crucial to a school district’s essential function of teaching and learning.

GCSS names 2023 Exemplary English Learner Student and ESOL Teacher
The Greene County School System has named GCHS senior Sherlyn Camacho-Bustamente as the district’s 2023 Exemplary English Learner (EL) Student and Donna Lund as the GCSS 2023 Exemplary ESOL Teacher. Both will proceed to the statewide competition for Exemplary EL Student and ESOL Teacher.

GCHS senior Arkiyus Wright signs with Cumberland University
GCHS senior Arkiyus Wright signed his letter of intent to play football at Cumberland University on Feb. 2, National Signing Day. The 5-foot-10, 165-pound defensive recorded 53 tackles and 3.0 tackles for loss through 10 games this past season. He also pulled down a team-high four interceptions for the Tigers during his senior campaign. Offensively, Wright hauled in 10 receptions for 145 receiving yards and a touchdown.

Ryan Evans named STAR Student for Greene County High School
Greene County High School senior Ryan Evans has been named the school’s 2023 PAGE STAR Student. Evans selected Megan Calicott, a science teacher at Greene County High School, as his STAR Teacher. Evans is the son of Mr. Ward Evans of Greensboro and is a GCHS All-A Honor Roll student.

MIT program coordinator and GCHS alum Marcus Mundy returns to Greene County to share STEM opportunities with students
MIT program coordinator and GCHS graduate (’09) Marcus Mundy returned to Greene County last week to present to GCHS’s junior class about the MITES program (Minority Introduction to Engineering and Science), a rigorous six-week residential summer program that introduces promising minority high school seniors to engineering and science.

Greene County Board of Education achieves GSBA Exemplary School Board Status for 2nd year
For a second consecutive year, the Greene County Board of Education has received the Georgia School Boards Association’s (GSBA’s) Exemplary School Board recognition, the highest award level in GSBA’S 3-tier Board Recognition Program.

Four GCHS students receive 2022 Rotary Youth Leadership Award
Four students from Greene County High School were selected to receive the Rotary Youth Leadership Award (RYLA) and participate in Leadership Camp at Tallulah Falls School in May 2022.

The Greene County School System’s 2022 Georgia Milestones test results show that at the elementary level, the system has closed the COVID gap and made significant improvements in addition.

GCHS named a 2022 AP Honor School
Greene County High School (GCHS) has been named a 2022 Advanced Placement (AP) Honor School by the Georgia Department of Education (GaDOE). GCHS was recognized as an AP Expansion School, a designation which recognizes schools with 25% growth in AP student participation from May 2020 to May 2021.

GCSS Athletics hires award-winning new GCHS Head Football Coach Terrance Banks
The GCSS Athletics Department is pleased to welcome Terrance Banks to Greene County High School as its new Head Football Coach. Banks comes to Greene County from Meadowcreek High School in Norcross, where he has served as Interim Head Football Coach and was previously the school’s Offensive Coordinator/Wide Receivers Coach, helping the team reach its first playoff appearance in three years.

GCHS Principal James Peek announces retirement, AD Eddie Hood to be named Interim Principal
Mr. Eddie Hood, the current GCSS Athletic Director, has been named Associate Principal of Greene County High School. Following the upcoming retirement of current GCHS Principal Mr. James Peek in May 2022, Mr. Hood will become the school’s Interim Principal for the 2022-2023 school year.

GCSS suspends campus mask requirement
The Greene County School System is pleased to announce the suspension of its campus mask requirement for students and staff, effective Monday, November 1st.

GCSS names four 2021-2022 Teachers of the Year
Congratulations to our 2021-2022 Teachers of the Year! Jennifer Rosenblum is Teacher of the Year at CBJ Preschool, Dana Jackson is Teacher of the Year at Greene County Primary School at Union Point, Morgen Gay is Teacher of the Year at Anita White Carson Middle School, and Megan Calicott is Teacher of the Year at Greene County High School.

GCSS announces mask requirement for students and staff
The Greene County School System announced that effective Wednesday, August 11th, wearing masks will be required for all students and staff inside school buildings and on the school bus. Superintendent Chris Houston directed the change in mask policy after the rate of student cases within the district reached 1%.
