The Greene County Board of Education held a Special Called Meeting on February 19 at 5:30 p.m. at Greene County High School to discuss  House Bill 1209, and to vote on the Board of Education’s notification of intent to the Georgia Department of Education.


House Bill 1209 (2008) provides for amending of Chapter 2 of Title 20 of the Official Code of Georgia Annotated, relating to elementary and secondary education. It provides for a local school system to enter into a contract with the State Board of Education for increased flexibility that allows a school system: (1) to remain under current requirements, “status quo”;  (2) to provide for the system to become a Charter School System, where certain laws can be waived; or, (3) to become an IE2 (Investing in Educational Excellence) system, where other funding options are considered.
