The PREP Center provides an environment, free of what can be considered by some, the distractions of the traditional school setting. The advantages of the Alternative school are as follows: Classrooms size is less than half of that of the traditional school setting, online credit recovery, focus on character Education, and team building. This year, the alternative school is planning to provide additional therapy for students in the form of music, photography, and art and cooking. Therapies provided are not meant for grading purpose, they are provided for a means of expression for those students that are having behavioral or social difficulty.
The curriculum is provided via the E 20/20 program. This program is a research driven web based program with teacher- led video delivery. Education2020 helps school districts provide core and elective instruction in a virtual school setting for students in grades 6-12. Course ware is aligned to state and national standards and has helped students recover and accrue credits for graduation and prepare for state, end-of-course, and key standardized tests since 1998. It combines best-practice pedagogy with next-gen technology that enables your teachers to customize content for each individual student while providing students to learn at their own pace. (Education 2020) In addition students will receive additional assistance from contracted teachers through the Gears Grant and daily on site assistance from the coordinator, paraprofessionals and special education services.
