Walk to School Day rescheduled for GCSS students and staff
October 19, 2015 – Greene County School System has rescheduled its Walk to School Day event to the morning of Friday, Oct. 30. The school system had to cancel the annual walk earlier this month because of the weather.
For the first time since the school district has participated in International Walk to School Day, all students and staff will meet and walk from one location. Students, teachers and staff from Greene County CBJ Preschool, Greensboro Elementary School, Union Point STEAM Academy, Anita White Carson Middle School, Greene County High School and Greene County PREP Center will meet at the district’s designated meeting location - the Excell Adult Day Care Center on Martin Luther King Jr. Drive by 7:10 a.m. The walk will begin at approximately 7:15 a.m. along Martin Luther King Jr. Drive.
Parents, elected officials and community members are invited to join students and staff on the walk. Anyone interested in walking, should contact Robyn Brunson, GCSS Communications Coordinator, at (706) 453-7688 ext. 2247.
Walk to School Day events raise awareness of the need to create safer routes for walking and bicycling and emphasize the importance of issues such as increasing physical activity among children, pedestrian safety, traffic congestion and concern for the environment. The event helps to build connections between families, schools and the broader community.
