Innovative Programs

1:1 iPad Initiative -Greene County High School/School Improvement Grant

Our students are ready to Level the Playing Field thanks to the programs being offered by Greene County High School and the School Improvement Grant.

Join us as we prepare our students for endless opportunities and GO GREENE.

In January of 2012, Greene County School System implemented a major component of its School Improvement Grant (SIG) with the distribution of the iPad to all Greene County High School students.

“Our students have learning styles that are as unique as they are,” said Cynthia Brictson, Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum and Instruction. “We are meeting each of our students where and when they learn best.  Learning begins to transform and increase exponentially when students learn from each other and have the tools to individualize their learning.”

iShuffle Your Teacher Home

Greene County Schools are at the forefront in delivering technology to the classroom. As school districts across Georgia and the U.S. explore ways to engage students in the Digital Age, Greene County Schools are already using the latest technology as tools in teaching and learning.

Shuffle My Teacher Home is a program at Greensboro Elementary School that is presently targeting English Limited Learner in the third grade to assist them in their own language acquisition. The program is meant to extend the learning  day with providing some additional fun activities using technology. The iPods not only help the students but also their  parents to acquire a better understanding of the language. Helping the parents helps the student with reading assignments and homework.

myChinese360

What does myChinese360 mean?

Learning a foreign language can be a challenge for many of us, and traditional language learning methods may not meet the needs of today's students.

This is why TCG Global developed myChinese360, a robust and well rounded (i.e. 360 degree) approach to learning that meets students at their interest level. With myChinese360, students have access to powerful learning tools 24 hours a day, and can engage with their fellow students and teachers no matter where they live.

Why should US Students Study Mandarin Chinese?

China is a sleeping giant, now boasting the fastest growing economy in the world. Learning Chinese gives US students the opportunity to take advantage of this change, and remain competitive in the global market. The US can not afford to be complacent in our ability to compete, and we need our workforce to have the language skills to cope with a growing interaction with Chinese-speaking countries.

Ombudsman Educational Services

The Ombudsman Academy is a school within a school.  It was created with the help of a School Improvement Grant to meet the needs of the non-traditional student. The program design allows for flexibility for at-risk students who work, have children, or who want an alternative to traditional instruction in order to meet the requirements for successful high school graduation.   Like all students in the school system, the Ombudsman Academy students will meet state and local requirements for promotion and graduation.  Attainable goals are set, and each student works at his own pace to build skills and accelerate learning.  Curriculum is adapted to meet each student's skill level.

The Academy’s purpose is to aid in improving the school system’s graduation rate by providing an alternate route to high school completion. Students are afforded the opportunity to attend one of the 3 hour sessions. The session times are 8:00 - 11:00 a.m., 11:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. and 2:00 - 5:00 p.m. The Ombudsman Academy is unique in that it offers a blended format for instruction. Students complete computer based lessons as well as receive direct instruction from certified teachers. The Academy is designed to accommodate 50 students.

Suzuki Violin Program

The Suzuki Violin Program is a program for students grades K-4 that allows children to learn how to play the violin in individual and small group settings. Students learn how to play songs by rote, gradually learning how to play songs by reading music.

“This is not just music education. The long-term effects on the family are positive and far-reaching”, says Pam Brasch, Executive Director of the Suzuki Association of the Americas. “It teaches a child cooperation, self-esteem…so many important qualities that children are not getting otherwise.”
